Coaching
It is often the little things you do every day that contribute most to your child’s well-being, and set a strong foundation for life. I offer an individualized approach based on the latest science about how children and parents thrive. Coaching is offered for any normal developmental topic or parenting issue, related to expectant parents, newborns, infants, children and teens.
Coaching is a collaborative psychoeducational mentoring relationship.
Birth to Five - Baby Attuned
Mom/Dad and Baby Discussion groups address the joys and challenges of parenting, with nonjudgmental guidance around all aspects of baby care and development, including establishing healthy feeding, sleep, activity, and interactive play routines; monitoring each baby’s developmental progress; encouraging reflective and sensitive parenting and awareness of parents’ stress and coping strategies; and promoting camaraderie, friendships, and a sense of community.
These classes are distinct from other mommy and me groups in their focus on discussion of parents’ individual questions and concerns, and research-based child development education. Parents need someone to be attuned to their needs and concerns, in order to be attuned to the baby's needs. Classes may also include infant massage instruction, mindful meditation for mom/dad, age-appropriate songs and interactive play and learning activities.
Gifted and Talented Testing
Early identification of talented students is important. Children with exceptional academic abilities are significantly different from most of their classmates in their pace of learning and intellectual interests. If educational intervention does not take place at an early age, the child is missing out on valuable years of exciting learning. Furthermore, the recognition and rewarding of academic talent in a child helps to build confidence, self-esteem, and a positive attitude toward learning.
PC CARE Parent Coaching
Parent-Child Care (PC-CARE) is a 6-session dyadic treatment program for families of children ages 1 to 10 years, who are interested in improving caregiver-child relationships and are willing to learn new child behavior management strategies. Each week the caregiver and child attend a 1 hour session for a total of 7 weeks (including 1 pre-treatment assessment and behavior observation and 6 weeks of dyadic and coaching sessions). During each hour long session the provider checks in with the family, uses a brief child behavior screener to address behaviors in the past week, does a 10 minute didactic of new skills, and then coaches the caregiver for 30 minutes live in the moment to use the new skills during play with the child. At the end of each session, the provider assigns “Daily CARE” to the caregiver to use the skills during play with the child for 5 minutes every day.
